2 Week Intro to Alterations Masterclass

experience level: beginner to intermediate

join us for a hands on intro to alteration masterclass.

this series of workshops, held over two saturday’s, is ideal for anyone wanting to learn practical alteration skills and gain confidence working with people and clothing. we’ll explore the basics of clothing alterations, from shortening and lengthening to tapering and slimming garments on yourself and a client. you will be given first hand tips on how to conduct your own fit sessions and carry out alterations. 

you’ll learn the basics of professional alterations and feel confident to start altering your clothes or even taking on clients.

What you'll learn:

• how to thread a sewing machine and bobbin
• confidence using a sewing machine
• how to take measurements and transfer them to garments 
• practical construction techniques
• an understanding of seams, shaping and finishing
• a deeper appreciation of craftsmanship
• understanding of clothing and how to achieve perfect fit
• different methods of alteration and how to do them
• client skills and how to conduct a fit session
• live alteration demonstrations on peers
• personal best alteration practices 

workshop dates - 2 week programme

each session is 3 hours 30 mins long and capped at 4 students per session to ensure individual attention, space to practise and personalised guidance throughout.

some sewing experience is helpful but not essential. we’ll move at a pace that’s comfortable for everyone.

please note we will not be covering denim in this masterclass , as it is more specialised and will be taught in a separate dedicated session.

what to expect

• 2x 3 hour 30min sessions

• a supportive learning environment (only 4 people to each session)

• please arrive 10 minutes before your chosen time slot to get settled in

• all equipment, tools and a notebook are provided for you on first session

• the choice to bring your own garments to work on (this will be provided if you don’t have one that needs altering)

• each participant will have a sewing machine provided for them

• want to learn on your own machine? bring it along! just let me know in advance via instant chat, email, or Instagram DM

• a complimentary glass of fizz (non-alcoholic alternative) during the final 15 minutes each session

before the masterclass :

up to 24 hours after purchasing your ticket, you’ll receive a short pre-workshop form to fill out. this helps tailor the session to your experience level, please make sure to complete it so you get the most out of your session.
