Sewing 101 is a 5 week intro to garment making course designed to introduce you to working with commercial sewing patterns, from understanding fabrics and sizing to preparing and constructing a garment.

sessions take place bi-weekly, giving you time between each class to take in what you've learnt, practise at home and build your confidence before moving on to the next stage.

throughout the course, you'll develop sewing skills and create a pair of calico trousers or shorts, giving you the skills and confidence to approach future sewing projects correctly and independently.

who is Sewing 101 for?

Sewing 101 is for beginners who know the basics of using a sewing machine and want to build the confidence to start making clothes from sewing patterns.

this course isn’t about making one finished garment - it’s about understanding patterns and garment construction, so you can apply these skills to future projects. We’ll be making a toile rather than a wearable garment, allowing you to focus on learning the process.

no previous garment making experience is needed.

if you've never used a sewing machine before, we recommend completing the Technical Sewing Skills Workshop before joining Sewing 101. (but not essential)

what to expect:

  • each participant will have a sewing machine provided for them
  • want to learn on your own machine? bring it along! just let me know in advance via instant chat, email or Instagram DM
  • small class sizes = plenty of guidance and individual support throughout the course.
  • we'll finish each session with a complimentary glass of fizz (non-alcoholic option available)
